Wetland Management Tools & Technical Information

:) Although free,  we ask that you ALWAYS ACKNOWLEDGE the authors and the Mondi Wetlands Programme of these materials when using them.

Following are a selection of detailed wetland management tools that have been developed through a collaboration of MWP staff together with partner organisations we work closely with, including: Working for Wetlands, Water Research Commission, Wetland Consulting Services, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Free State Conservation, Institute of Natural resources, Mondi, Sappi, KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife, Land Resources International. Most of these tools require a fairly high level of wetland experience to implement them.

5.  Wetland Fix
Compiled by the Mondi Wetlands Programme.
Wetland Fix was probably the most important conservation series to be published as far back as 1995. It took the Mondi Wetlands Programme (then called the Rennies Wetlands Project) 4 years, and many discussions with farmers and agriculture/conservation extension officers in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Free State and Mpumalanga to gather the information which makes up the field guides. Wetland Fix was South Africa's first illustrated set of field guides on the assessment, management and rehabilitation of wetlands. These practical guides are indispensable for wetland owners, agriculture and conservation extension officers, and anybody who cares about wetlands. The series contains practical information, mostly in illustrated, step-by-step format.

The series is made up of 6 parts namely:
5.1    Part 1 – Introduction and wetland assessment – 19 pages (Download 316KB)
5.2    Part 2 – Wetland burning and grazing guide – 15 pages (Download 291KB)
5.3    Part 3 – Streambank stabilisation and channel plug development – 29 pages (Download 668KB)
5.4    Part 4 – Indigenous plants suitable for rehabilitation – 18 pages (Download 518KB)
5.5    Part 5 – Spring protection guide – 11 pages (Download 246KB)
